End of an Era: PokerStars to Fold Standalone US Sites Into FanDuel Platform

Online poker powerhouse PokerStars is preparing for a major shift in North America, retiring its standalone U.S. platforms and relaunching as “PokerStars exclusively on FanDuel.”

The move will transition players in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan onto the FanDuel platform, creating a shared player pool across those states. Ontario players will also migrate to the new system, though shared liquidity benefits will initially apply only within the U.S.

For players, the headline promise is clear: bigger fields, larger guarantees, and more consistent marquee events — including the regular return of the iconic Sunday Million with its $1 million guaranteed prize pool.

What’s Changing — and When

The migration date has not yet been formally announced. However, PokerStars confirmed that players will stop earning PokerStars Rewards as of March 13. At that time:

  • Unopened rewards chests will be paid out in cash

  • Incomplete progress bars will be settled on a pro-rated basis

The current PokerStars client and app will remain operational until the official switchover. After migration, gameplay on the standalone platform will cease.

Players will have 30 days to withdraw remaining balances. Any funds left after that window will be mailed via check to the player’s registered address.

To continue playing, customers will need a FanDuel Casino account. Those who already have one won’t need to take additional action. A dedicated “PokerStars exclusively on FanDuel” app and client will replace the current software, featuring a shared wallet usable across poker, casino, sportsbook, and other FanDuel products.

Why the Shift?

Both PokerStars and FanDuel operate under the umbrella of Flutter Entertainment.

FanDuel’s portfolio spans daily fantasy sports, online casino gaming, sports betting, and its newer prediction market product, FanDuel Predicts. PokerStars, founded in 2001 and long associated with its “We Are Poker” identity, has gradually diversified over the past decade, adding casino and sportsbook offerings under sub-brands such as PokerStars Casino and BetStars.

Cross-promotion between poker, casino, and sports betting has been central to the strategy for years. But with casino gaming widely considered more profitable than poker operations, consolidating platforms under FanDuel could streamline operations and reduce overhead while boosting overall margins.

Industry analysts have also noted fluctuations in Flutter’s share price in recent years, adding financial context to a move designed to create efficiencies and strengthen revenue streams.

What It Means for Players

For U.S.-based online grinders, merged liquidity has long been a goal — especially for those who remember the global player pools of the pre-Black Friday era.

Combining New Jersey, Michigan, and Pennsylvania should mean:

  • More cash tables running

  • Shorter wait times

  • Larger tournament guarantees

  • Bigger prize pools

Ontario players will transition platforms as well, though shared liquidity expansion into Canada has not yet been confirmed.

PokerStars Casino progressive jackpots that remain unpaid at migration will be distributed proportionally based on player contributions, though only progressive contributions — not total wagers — will be returned.

Dedicated online information hubs are launching for players in all affected regions, outlining transition details and promotional offers tied to the relaunch.

A Nostalgic Moment for Online Poker

For many longtime players, this marks more than a technical migration. PokerStars built its brand as a pure poker destination and dominated the global online scene for years under a singular identity.

Now, poker becomes one vertical within a broader FanDuel ecosystem.

The upside? Larger pools and stronger guarantees powered by shared liquidity.

The downside? The quiet sunset of a standalone platform that once proudly declared: We Are Poker.
